There are hundreds of tutorials on the Internet on How to Connect or mirror your iPad screen, but most of them doesn’t has a clear tutorial on how to do it properly.
This article will address that and help you mirrroring your iPad screen to Windows PC and Mac as well.
There are two methods that you can do this,
- Using a wired connection (HDMI Cable, USB-C Adapter, Video Capture card)
- Using Screen Mirroring Apps.
If you are looking for professional output, i would suggest you to go with the first option since using a wired option you wont have latency issues.
1. Using a Wired Connection to mirror iPad Screen on Windows PC
To do this, you will need a USB 3.0 Video Capture card, USB-C to HDMI Adapter and a HDMI to HDMI Cable.
There are two option when it comes to Video Capture card.
- Elgato Capture Card (Recommended) – 199$
- Budget Friendly Capture Card – PiBox – 15$
If your main aim is to stream/record games, Stream Lectures (>30 Minutes) then i would suggest you to go with Elgato Capture Card as the budget capture card heats too quickly.
You need a USB-C to HDMI adapter, If your iPad has USB-C Port eg : iPad Air has USB-C Port, If your iPad has an Lightning port, then you need a Lightning to HDMI Adapter.
Again there are two options for HDMI Adapter.
- Apple USB-C/Lightning to HDMI Adapter – (69$)
- Third Party USB-C to HDMI Adapter – (8-15$)
Then you need a HDMI to HDMI Cable, the HDMI Cable costs about 2-5$. Once we have all these three, we can proceed to mirror our iPad screen to Windows PC.

How to Mirror iPad Screen to Windows PC
- Connect your USB 3.0 Capture card to your Windows PC
- Connect the HDMI cable to USB 3.0 Capture card
- Connect the other end of HDMI Cable to HDMI Adapter
- Finally connect the USB-C (iPad Air) / Lightning (9th Gen) to your iPad.
Now open OBS Studio, in the Source option Click “+” and add a video capture device
From the dropdown select USB 3.0 Capture and that’s it you can see that your iPad is successfully mirrored to your Windows PC without lag
Screen Mirroring iPad on Mac
If you have a Mac, all you need is a USB-C to USB-C cable if on iPad Air/Pro and Lightning to USB-C if on 9th Generation.
- connect one end of USB-C to Mac and other end USB-C/Lighnting to iPad
- Go to OBS Studio and in the sources option click “+” and add video capture device
- Select USB Capture and that’s it
Option 2 : Wireless Mirroring using Apps
If you are looking to record short videos around 10-20 minute range and not concerned about video quality and latency, then you can chose this option

- Download and Install a Screen Mirroring App on your Windows PC
- Open the Screen Mirroring App on your PC and do the required settings.
- Open your iPad and drag the navigation menu and click on mirroring button just under the Bluetooth Symbol.
- Connect to the screen mirroring app by tapping the Screen mirroring app name that you see on your iPad
- Now Open OBS, In the Source click on “+” Click Select Game Capture and Select the Screen Mirroring Option
